What is Benylin Children’s Dry Cough & Sore Throat Syrup 1+ Year?
Benylin Children’s Dry Cough & Sore Throat Syrup is a medicine that is designed to treat dry coughs and sore throats. It works by soothing the throat which will reduce the sensations that cause coughing. The syrup will also protect the throat from irritants such as dust or smoke that may cause a cough.
What is the cause of dry cough?
A dry cough is a common condition that can affect anyone. A cough is the body’s natural reaction to clearing the airways of irritants. A dry cough is a tickly feeling cough that doesn’t produce any mucus. The most common causes of a dry cough include:
- A cold or the flu
- Bronchitis
- Pneumonia
- An allergy
- Inhaling dust or smoke
A dry cough may be a sign of a more serious condition if the cough lasts for longer. This is known as a persistent cough.
Who is this Benylin cough medicine suitable for?
This cough medicine is suitable to be used by children aged 1 and over who are suffering from the effects of a dry cough. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the medicine. If your child has an intolerance to sugars, or are using any other form of medication, then you should speak to a doctor or our pharmacist before using.
Can an adult use this medicine?
There is no reason why an adult that has a dry cough cannot use this Benylin medicine.
How should Benylin Children’s Dry Cough & Sore Throat Syrup 1+ Year be used?
Children aged between 1-5 should have one 5ml spoonful 3-4 times a day. Children aged 5 and over, as well as adults, should use two 5ml spoonfuls 3-4 times a day. If symptoms do not improve after using, speak to a doctor or our pharmacist for advice.
Are there any potential side effects?
A side effect of using this medicine is unlikely, except for an allergic reaction. Potential side effects as a result of an allergic reaction include wheezing, difficulty breathing, swelling in the face, lips, tongue, neck, or throat. If you notice any side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or our pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
