Night Nurse Cold Remedy is a cold and flu medicine you can take before bed. It helps to ease your symptoms and get a good night’s sleep as you recover from that cold.
Night Nurse is ideal for people with a cold or the flu who prefer liquid medicines to tablets.
How Night Nurse Cold Remedy works
Night Nurse Cold Remedy contains paracetamol, promethazine hydrochloride and dextromethorphan hydrobromide.
Paracetamol is a painkiller which provides you with relief from pain. It can also bring down a high temperature or fever.
Promethazine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that dries up a runny nose and helps you get to sleep.
Finally, dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that helps ease dry or tickly coughs.
Directions
Always take Night Nurse Cold Remedy exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Take 1 x 20ml of syrup before bedtime.
Do not take this product for more than 3 days.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Night Nurse Cold Remedy may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects may include:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty concentrating
- Unsteadiness
- Clumsiness
- Headaches
- Dry mouth
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Night Nurse Cold Remedy may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have a chest infection, worsening asthma or severe respiratory problems.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You have heart, kidney or liver problems
- You have glaucoma
- You have epilepsy
- You have difficulty passing urine
- You have prostate problems
- You have a chronic or persistent cough that is accompanied by excessive phlegm or respiratory problems
- You have diabetes
- You are on a sodium-controlled diet
- You are elderly and suffer from confusion
Do not take this product if you are going to have a pregnancy test carried out using your urine.
Using/asking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.
Do not take Night Nurse Cold Remedy if you are taking other medicines that contain paracetamol or antihistamines or if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Age restrictions
This product is unsuitable for children under 16 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not take this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Alcohol
Do not drink alcohol whilst taking this medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
Night Nurse Cold Remedy may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision and other side effects that can alter your driving ability. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so.
Storage information
Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
