Almus Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg – 24 Tablets

Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg Tablets help with acute moderate pain. They are to be taken when other painkillers, such as aspirin, paracetamol, and ibuprofen alone, have not been able to provide relief.

The tablets can be taken for pain, such as:

• Headaches
• Back pain
• Period pain
• Migraines
• Dental pain
• Rheumatic and muscular pain

How Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg Tablets work

These tablets contain the active ingredients ibuprofen and codeine.

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that helps ease pain, reduce fever, and reduce swelling and inflammation.

Codeine belongs to a group of medicines known as opioid analgesics, which works to relieve pain by blocking pain messages that are sent to the brain.

Directions

Always take Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor /  pharmacist has told you.

Children between 12 and 18 years old: 1-2 tablets every 6 hours. Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.

Adults: 1-2 tablets every 4 hours. Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.

Swallow each tablet whole with water.

Take the lowest amount of tablets for the shortest time to relieve your symptoms.

Do not take these tablets for more than 3 days.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects of this medication may include:

• Indigestion
• Heartburn
• Nausea
• Stomach pain
• Rashes
• Itching
• Headaches

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

If you experience any of the following side effects, stop taking this medication straight away and seek medical advice immediately:

• You are sick, and it contains blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds
• You pass blood in your stools or pass black tarry stools
• You experience unexplained wheezing or worsening of asthma
• Chest pain
• Reddish, non-elevated, circular patches on the trunk (shoulders, abdomen and chest), often with blisters, skin peeling, and ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose or eyes
• A widespread rash, high body temperature and enlarged lymph nodes
• A red, scaly, widespread rash with bumps under the skin and blisters accompanied by fever
• Stiff neck, fever, disorientation
• Kidney problems

If you experience any of the following symptoms, talk to your pharmacist or doctor:

• Feeling sick or being sick
• Headaches, blurred vision and drowsiness
• High blood pressure
• Fluid retention, which may cause swelling of the limbs
• Slow or shallow breathing with problems clearing mucus from the chest
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes, pale stools and upper abdominal pain
• Swelling or ulcers of the stomach or mouth lining and constipation
• Diarrhoea, wind or worsening of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
• Tiredness or severe exhaustion and changes in the blood that may cause unusual or unexplained bruising and bleeding
• An increase in the number of infections you get
• Your skin becomes sensitive to light

Warnings

Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:

• You know you metabolise codeine very rapidly into morphine
• You have a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding, or you have had a stomach ulcer more than twice
• You have severe heart, liver or kidney failure
• You have difficulty breathing or breathing problems
• You have constipation, or you are regularly constipated

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:

• You have asthma or a history of asthma
• You have bowel problems e.g. Crohn’s disease
• You are between 12 and 18 years old, and you are dehydrated
• You have a connective tissue disorder e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
• You have low blood pressure
• You have an underactive thyroid
• You have a head injury or a condition where there is raised pressure in the head
• You have high blood pressure
• You have diabetes
• You have high cholesterol
• You have a family history of heart disease or stroke, or you are a smoker
• You have chickenpox
• You have an infection

Using/taking other medicines

If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.

You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medication:

• Other painkillers, including NSAIDs
• Aspirin 75mg (to prevent heart attacks or strokes)
• Anticoagulants e.g. acetylsalicylic acid, warfarin or ticlopidine
• Mifepristone (for the termination of a pregnancy)
• Water tablets (diuretics)
• Medicines that reduce high blood pressure
• Medicines for heart problems
• Corticosteroids
• Lithium (for bipolar disorders)
• Methotrexate (for cancer, psoriasis, rheumatism or Crohn’s disease)
• Zidovudine (for HIV infection)
• Quinolone antibiotics (for infections)
• Medications for depression
• Ciclosporin or tacrolimus (given after transplant surgery)

Age restrictions

This medication is unsuitable for anyone under 12 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Do not take this medication in the last 3 months of pregnancy. You should only take it during the first 6 months of pregnancy if your healthcare provider has advised you.

Do not take this medication if you are breastfeeding.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.

Alcohol

Do not drink alcohol while you are taking this medication.

Driving and operating machinery

This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so.

Fertility risks

This medication may reduce your ability to become pregnant. It will be reversed once you stop taking it.

Storage information

Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
