Ferrous Sulfate 200mg – 28 Tablets

Ferrous Sulphate 200mg tablets are a highly effective treatment for iron deficiency anaemia. Each tablet contains 200mg of ferrous sulphate (equivalent to about 65 mg of ferrous iron), providing a source of iron, which is essential for the formation of red blood cells and the transport of oxygen around the body. Regular supplementation can help to restore normal iron levels, alleviate fatigue, and improve overall energy.

Ingredients:

• Active ingredient: Ferrous Sulphate 200mg per tablet (equivalent to about 65 mg of ferrous iron).
• Other ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, Stearic acid, Magnesium stearate, Maize starch, Sodium starch glycolate, Talc.

Dosage:

• Adults and children over 12 years: One tablet taken once or twice daily. Swallow whole with water. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
• Children under 12 years: Not recommended unless prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Do not use if you have a known allergy to ferrous sulphate or any of the listed ingredients.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
• Conditions to consider: If you have a history of gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or haemochromatosis (iron overload), speak to your healthcare provider before taking this supplement.
• Keep out of reach of children. Overdose may be fatal, particularly in children under 6 years.

Potential Side Effects: Like all medicines, ferrous sulphate can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Common side effects include:

• Nausea or upset stomach
• Constipation or diarrhoea
• Dark stools
• Stomach cramps

If you experience severe side effects such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or severe abdominal pain, seek medical attention immediately.

Drug Interactions: Ferrous sulphate may interact with other medications, including:

• Antacids such as Gaviscon or Rennies and proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole or Lansoprazole (may reduce iron absorption)
• Certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracycline, quinolones)
• Zinc or calcium supplements (may interfere with absorption) Take ferrous sulphate at least 2 hours apart from these medications.

Important Information:

• To maximise absorption, take ferrous sulphate on an empty stomach, ideally an hour before meals. However, if you experience stomach upset, it may be taken with food.
• Avoid taking with tea, coffee, or dairy products, as these can reduce the absorption of iron.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
